Battle for Salvation: Perils of the Warp makes an aperance.

Hey guys. We all traveled up to White Plains last weekend to take on the guys from Battle for Salvation in their yearly tournament. It was a blast! Extremely well run event and a great group of guys. I feel we represented ourselves well, with all of us winning some games and ranking fairly high. Presonally, I took best painted (which is an honor as some of those models were gorgeous!) and got damn near to top 3, so I couldn't be happier. I can't speak for the other guys, but I probably won't be posting much on it scince most of my experience is covered elsewhere already. I throw some links in at the end of this post for reference.
In the meantime, I'm playing a few games with my brother, the guy responsible for me getting into this mess, over turkey vacation, so I'll have some quick overviews of those soon.
Thanks for reading! Here's them links:

Blood Happens

Hey all, Werewolf here… I was at the tournament on the 20th as well and took my Chaos with me. I field a mech-heavy assault army and just failed to get to all the objectives fast enough. I’m used to playing more of the target enemies and kill them and not the missions so I had a rough day till the last mission. Well here is the list I took, its a little low on troops so I am reworking things.

Daemon Prince with Wings, Mark of Slaanesh, and Warptime
Daemon Prince with Wings and Mark of Khorne
Summoned Greater Daemon
3 Terminators with 2 Combi-meltas, a Heavy Flamer, a Powerfist, and a Champion
10 Khorne Berzerkers with Skull Champion, Powerfist, and Personal Icon
10 Khorne Berzerkers with Skull Champion, Powerfist, and Personal Icon
6 Chaos Space Marines with Aspiring Champion and Melta in Rhino
Landraider
Landraider
Vindicator

Game 1: Witch Hunters

Chaos fighting Witch Hunters was a pretty epic face off. He had 2 units of Storm Troopers one in a Rhino, Saint Celestine, and an elite Inquisitor in a Landraider with 2 Hen chmen, 2 Exorcists, 5 Seraphim, a unit of elite Sisters with a Priest, and an Assassin. The table quarters objective was not really new to me, but I haven’t had a lot of experience with it. He hid his troops back behind a large castle wall out of the way in his deployment zone. I figured I had to eliminate some threats to my armor, and he proved that by taking out my Rhino on first turn with Exorcist fire. In response my Landraiders rolled forward and popped off some Lascannon shots at them and managed to nuder one and shook the other. My Vindicator took care of most of the elite Sisters in the open. I ended up Deepstriking the Terminators behind the other Exorcist and taking it out, lured the Inquisitor out of the Landraider after my now 5 man Chaos Marine Squad, as the Greater Daemon busted out of the Champion. The Terminators got layed low by a lone Priest who had survived where the Sisters had not. I failed on difficult terrain to get the Berzerkers in against the Inquisitor and they got engaged by the Assassin who took out most of them. The other unit of Berzerkers and the Khorne Prince charged St. Celestine and managed to kill her without too many losses. The end came when he had his quarter controlled by a Storm Trooper squad on the Castle wall, and another in a rhino in the quarter next to it. I failed to have anything close enough that was still alive to contest, and his Seraphim jumped out and ran from cover just enough to contes t my own table quarter which had my only troops left, 7 Berzerkers. I ended up losing, getting only 1 Point.

Game 2: Chaos

Chaos on Chaos action. Always fun to watch and play. Especially two Berzerker heavy armies. My opponent had 2 rhinos full of 8 Berzerkers, a Landraider with Daemonic Possession with 8 Berzerkers and Kharn the Betrayer, 2 units of 8 Lesser Daemons, and 2 Predators with Twinlinked Lascannons, Heavy Bolter Sponsons and Daemonic Possession. I was kind of upset I got stuck on the same board again, but the scenario was different this time so I was ok. 5 Objectives, always kind of hard to fit them all in. I noticed I only had 3 Troop choices and just tried to do the numbers in my head and see which ones I had to take and which I had to Contest. My opponent had awful luck on moving his vehicles; trying to drive over a hill he immobilized both his Predators on the far side of the board. Then he immobilized a Rhino driving over some rubble. Lucky for him, his Predators still had a good line to shoot at my Rhino squad and ended up killing all of them to the man making me lose an objective I had under control. My Daemon Princes and a squad of Berzerkers got into a meatgrinder with 2 units of his Berzerkers, a unit of Lesser Daemons and Kharn, and unfortunately due to some bad rolling on my part Kharn came out, last man standing, the only guy lef t. At the end of the game I had a unit of Berzerkers on an objective, contested on that he had by packing my Landraider on top it, and tried to gun my other Landraider to the one he controlled with his second lesser daemons unit, but was an inch too far. Resulted in a tie, giving me another 5 points, and 6 points total.

Game 3: Orks

This last game was a little crazy due to the board. The entire thing was a bombed out, crater riddled, World War I battlefield with a destroyed Inn at the middle. The entire board was pretty much difficult terrain. I was worried about my vehicles getting bogged down, but I did fine. My opponent had 2 30 man mobs (I think one was ‘Ard Boyz), 12 bikers, 15 Lootas, 15 Burna boyz, 10 Nobs and a Warboss in a Battlewagon. This mission was Kill Points, which I always seem to do a lot better with than objective missions. As a Khorne army I don’t have a whole lot of shooting, but I got to use what little I had this game. Playing a Horde my opponent didn’t have a whole lot of maneuvering room and this caused a problem for him. He kept rolling 1’s and 2’s for his difficult terrain moves. It also didn’t help that my second turn I popped my Vindicator around the center building and blew up his Battlewagon full of Nobs with one shot, forcing them to walk the rest of the way; having no better lu ck than the other Boyz. I lured his bikes though difficult terrain towards one of my Landraiders and when he failed to reach assault range I jumped out with Berzerkers and chopped up the whole mob. My Chaos Marines were up in between the 2 Boyz mobs and his Burna boyz firing out the top hatch until a big nasty Greater Daemon popped out the side of the Rhino. I lost the Greater Daemon, and the Khorne Daemon took 2 wounds but mopped up and flew away from everything else. For 3 turns his Warboss and Nobs kept running towards my Vindicator which kept pulling back and firing at them. I eventually flew over my Slaanesh Warptime Prince and killed his Warboss. The game ended with my losing a Rhino, the Vindicator, my Warptime Prince and the Greater Daemon. I took out his Bikers, 2 of his mobs, his Warboss, his Burna Boys, and his Battlewagon. So I won 6 to 4 and took 10 points for the win, plus a point for killing all his HQ, Fast Attack, and Heavy Support. This gave my 19 points at the end of it all, not even close to placing.

All in all it was a fun day and even though I didn’t place it was a great time. Had a few mishaps, and bad rolls, but that’s to be expected. I had a lot more laughs and enjoyable experiences than bad luck so I counted it as a win in my book. I’ll be tweaking this list and taking it to the next tournament as well, but in the mean time I’m working on my Space Wolves, hopefully getting them up to tournament points. Really looking forward to some fun with them! Till next time, cheers.

Go Go Speed Eldar Action!

Hey guys, Bang Bang here. So I walked into this tournament with my Eldar, easily my favorite army, ready to out-maneuver and pick apart anyone that I cross. I play a heavy mech build, relying on my Grav Tanks and precision strikes to win me games. My list was as follows:

Farseer- Jetbike, Singing Spear, Spirit Stone, Runes of Warding, Doom, Fortune
6 Warlocks- Jetbikes, 2 Singing Spears, 4 Destructor, Enhance, Embolden

6 Guardian Jetbikes- 2 Shuriken Cannons

8 Dire Avengers- Exarch, Dual Catapults, Bladestorm
Wave Serpent, Twin Linked Shuriken Cannons, Spirit Stone

8 Dire Avengers- Exarch, Dual Catapults, Bladestorm
Wave Serpent, Twin Linked Shuriken Cannons, Spirit Stone

5 Fire Dragons- Exarch, Crack Shot
Wave Serpent- Twin Linked Bright Lances, Hull Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stone

Fire Prism- Hull Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stone, Holo Fields

Fire Prism- Hull Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stone, Holo Fields

All pretty standard and nothing mind blowing.

GAME 1- NECRONS

Weird that Mech Eldar and Nerons faced off in two seperate games round 1... Anyways, this guys list was rough. He had 5 Pariahs, the Deciever, a Monolith, Destroyer Lord with Scarabs, some Flayed Ones, some Wraiths, and the rest of his points in Warriors. His Phaze Out seemed easy to reach. I deployed out both Fire Prisms and the Council, with everything else in reserve and opted to go second. He made a big nasty bludgeon out of his uber units, coming right down the center at me, with everything else set up defensively.
My initial plan was to go for the Phase Out, but as his big nasties got closer and closer I found I'd be better served acting conservatively and going for the mission instead. At first I took pot shots with the Prisms to minimal effect, and set up the council to be a big fat distraction. He took the bait, sending just about everything he had after them, leaving his defensive units unprotected. The Council, true to it's nature, held the line for essentially the whole game, while my reserves came in attacking his back up troops. The Pariahs dropped in one turns shooting from 2 units before having any effect on the game. This pissed him off. With my Council finally killed off by all the Invulnerable ignoring attacks, I was free to finish off his C'tan (a big morale blow) and kill off a whole squad of Warriors with my flanking forces. His reaction was to port his forces via Monolith into one quarter while I had Dire Avenger squads in two others. With a grav tank in every quarter, the game was mine 2-0. I received one bonus point, putting me at 11.

GAME 2- WITCH HUNTERS

I knew this would be a tricky game with all the crazy Psycher-hunting tricks these guys have, not the least of which is that annoying unlimited range Psychic Hood. His army has 2 units of Storm Troops, one with a Rhino, Saint Celestine, an elite Inquisitor in a Land Raider, two Exorcists, 5 Seraphim, a big unit of elite Sisters, and that one insane assassin. I opted for second turn as is usual in objective games for me, this time deploying the Prisms and Council in one corner, and the Fire Dragons in their Serpent in the other. First turn was rough, losing the cannon off of one Prism and getting charged by an infiltrating assassin that killed 2 Warlocks before exploding to kill 1 more. Ouch. I did get the satisfaction of causing a perils wound on his Inquisitor via Runes of Warding though. Take that!
My turn one, I sent my gunless tank out to go tank shocking, boosted the Council, and tried for some pot shots to little avail. His next turn was pretty uneventful, shooting most of his army into the Council. My turn two some reserves came on catching him off guard. A Shuriken Cannon Serpent caught side armor on one of his Exorcists (I HATE THOSE THINGS!) and blew off its gun, with the second being blown apart by my Farseer's singing spear. The Fire Dragons epic failed against his Land Raider, stunning it and taking off a las cannon. Ho hum. Highlight of the turn, however, was definitely tank shocking his Storm Troopers with the gun-less Prism, who promptly failed morale and ran off of the board. He absolutely didn't see it coming. Tank shock is far under used! Ha Zah!
With his armor neutered and all three of my troop choices alive and mobile, it was really just a matter of staying out of assault range for the rest of the game. That one Fire Prism would go on to tank shock twice more, once of which resulted in the heroic death of his Inferno Pistol armed Inquisitor (SPLAT). I won 2-0, with no bonus points, bringing me to 21 overall.

GAME 3- Black Templars

This game was against a guy from our local store that I've played many a time. We were on a nice city board, which I loved. He was running 2 small squads in Rhinos with Lascannons, the Emperor's Champion with 9 guys in a Rhino, a Land Raider Crusader chalk full of Lightning Claw Assault Terminators and a similarly armed Marshal, and 3 Attack Bikes, and a 5 man shooty Terminator squad with 2 Assault Cannons. I chose to go first, placing the Council behind a big building at board's center, and a Dire Avenger unit hidden in a corner. He put down his Land Raider on a road and a Lascannon Rhino. I held the Jetbikes in reserve.
My first turn I take some pot shots at his Rhino and set up the Dragons for the predicted Land Raider rush. Sure enough on his turn it came right at me, just short of assault range. The rest of his army crept onto the board. My second turn I unleashed the Dragons, blowing his Land Raider into tiny bits, and unloaded on his Terminators bringing them down to 2 and the Marshal. I charged with the Council if for no other reason than to hold them up.
His second he advanced a little, taking a few shots at me with no effect. Next turn I succeeded in popping a Rhino and shooting down all but 2 of the foot Terminators, plinking off some wounds on his Marshal and his cronies in the assault phase. We had a weird running gun battle through the close combat between my Guardian Bikes and his Attack Bikes. Thanks to doom, I eventually won that. With the kill point tally close, I needed to clean up a few things for the win...
In the final few turns I killed off his Marshal and Assault Terminators finally before getting assaulted by the Champion's crew. I resorted to Bladestorming a single Terminator, causing 12 wounds on him. Needless to say, he died. When all was said and done, I had 5 points to his 3 (my Farseer, a Wave Serpent, and the Dragons) netting me a win. It was a good ol' fashioned face beat fest.
At the end of the day, I had 32 points total, getting me second place. I also, however, won painting honors which gave me more swag overall than the first place winner (take THAT Suddz!!!) with which I picked up Planetary Empires. Be looking for some posts on that later. PEACE.

Suddz Necrons: Glory for the Star Gods!

Hello Hello Peeps, Its Suddz with my first blog of many on here. I didn't want to randomly start bloging on here and have people read it thinking, "Does this guy even play the game?" so our team decided to wait till after Sunday's tourny. Well, it came and it passed, we did what we do and here I am about to tell you about it.

First comes first, the army. As all my teammates know I decide everything at the last minute on what I want to play. This is always a hard decision for me to make, I have two main armies I play often being Daemons and Chaos Thousand Sons. But I also have White Scars, Orks, Necrons, Nids, normal Space Marines, and any faction of Chaos (Daemons and Marines) along with access to Imp Guard and Tau. So as you can tell I really do have a lot of armies I can Choose from. I sat down and talked to some people and emailed some people (not going to drop anyone's name *Cough* Fritz *Cough* Read his blogs he knows what he's doing *Cough* and finally decided on one of the worst armies in 40k... Necrons. Here is my list:

HQ
Lord - Res Orb, Vail
Destroyer Lord - destroyer body, Warsythe, Nightmare Shroud, Disruption Field

Troops
12 Warriors
12 Warriors
11 Warriors
11 Warriors

Fast Attack
4 Destroyers
4 Destroyers
10 Scarabs

Yep you look at my list I know what you are thinking, "This guy is a newb. No Monolith and no Heavy Destroyers." There is a mighty fine reason not to take a Monolith and there's mighty fine reasons to take it. I decided this week I would go without and take a crap ton of warriors instead. This helps in two ways, more fire power on foot and more troops making it harder to phase out. You also may be thinking “what are you going to do about Tanks”, well that's where my Destroyer Lord comes into play. His job is to run around with scarabs eating everything in there way and just to cause havoc, with 2d6 its a good thing against tanks, no so much armor 14 but it does the job. Now you know my list so lets go to the next phase: the games.

Game One
C'rons vs Mech Eldar - Mission - Capture Control Table Corners - Deployment - Spearhead

This was a bad match up for me. His list was 7 Skimmers - 3 Fire prisms and 4 Wave Serpents. It was ugly. I stepped back and looked at the table and just decided to try to hold him out of my corner and contest every other corner. We rolled and he won my heart sunk knowing he will pick second making me go first, but he didn't. He said he wanted to go first, my insides jumped and at that moment I had a chance. Turn one went by fast he zipped his guys around and I ran mine building to building getting better positioning, along with zipping my lord and scarabs to the other corner of the room. Turn two he deployed some guys and shoots some. I saw at that point he was afraid of my lord, he didn't shoot at it... he just stayed away from him. I used this to my advantage and zipped it near him making him run away from me instead of shooting my troops. This actually went on till turn 6 and he ignored my corner almost completely making it easy for me to Vail into his corner, destroyer zip into the left, and my lord was already in the right, so I win 1 objective me 0 for him.
I have 10 points.

Game Two
C'rons vs Pink Space Marines - Mission - 5 Objectives - Deployment - Pitched Battle

His list was kind of normal. 2 Iron clads in Drop pods, A Veteran Squad with Lysander in a Drop Pod, 2x10 man Tactical Squads, 2x10 man Assault Squad, 5 scout snipers, and 2 empty drop pods. I won the dice roll and had him go first. We placed our objectives and on we went. I separated my destroyers from my Warriors, 8 destroyers on the left and all warriors on the right with my lord and scarabs in the middle. His turn one he dropped an Ironclad and Vets in front of my Destroyers and the other Ironclad about a foot away next to my warriors. Assault Squads fly closer to my Warriors and Snipers and Tactical Squads sit on objectives. In his shooting phase he dropped 6 Destroyers and only 2 warriors in his turn, it really wasn't looking good for me at this moment. My time to shine, I rolled WWB making 2 Warriors and 4 Destroyers stand back up!!! Now I have two 3 man destroyer squads which zipped to the middle of the two dreads and my warriors run out to sit on objectives. My lord goes after a tactical squad squatting in a corner on a objective that I may need later. My Destroyers are on fire and pop both the dreads and a squad of Warriors pop one of the Drop Pods. His turn his Assault Squad gets closer and his vets have to take difficult terrain to get down off a cliff, they are still out of assault range. He concentrate most of his fire on my destroyers and drops 2. My turn I make my WWB and fly my destroyers another 12 away and lay into the closest assault squad, also I rapid fired into it with my warriors up on the hill that I left for bait. The other Warriors take out a couple guys in the other assault squad and the destroyers get the closest one down to one man. His turn, he takes the bait and charges the warriors. His vets pop shots and I lose a couple destroyers. In assault He whiffs and I kill 2 guys his power fist swing and get two of my guys. Tied combat, I was happy but sad all at the same time. My turn Warriors retreat a little from vets and shoot some at them. My lord get in close combat with the squad and takes it out. the Warriors in hand to hand drop the Marines down to only power fist in one squad and power fist in the other . This combat last until turn 5. Turn 6 he sits that guy on the objective to contest and is controlling 2 on the other side, 1 with scouts and the other with 5 guys. I use Vail and teleport over to the other side scattering on top of a cliff making it so I would have to roll a 4+ to make it to them. so I rapid fire into him killing only 4 of the 5 Scouts... moral check ... He rolls a 10 and runs off the bored. At that moment I need a 3+ to run my warrior and get my third objective to win and I roll a 4. I win 3 Objectives to 1, along with getting a bonus point for controlling his deployment zone at the end of the game.
I have 21 points.

Game Three
C'rons vs Imp Guard - Mission - Kill Points - Dawn of War

On this one I wanted to win the dice roll so I could go first, but I didn't and he chose to set up first. He was running a lot of Tanks, a squad of 2 Demolishers, Basilisk, Demolisher, 2 Hellhounds, 3 heavy weapon squads, 2 Penal Legion Squads, with something else. I truthfully cant remember his HQ or his troop choices because there was tons of guys. His set up forced me to be on the table edge but I was ok with that. My set up I baited my Res orb Lord and 2 Squads of Warriors as far up as I could on my right side with my Res Lord in the back squad front row to give the WBB to my front screen of Warriors. Luckily it worked. He brought in all of his tanks on the right side of the bored preparing to wipe out every man in my 2 squads. His Penal Legion walked on the left side of the board to give his Hq support.(He rolled both squads have Knife Fighters, aka Rending) He tried to shoot me but only a couple guys could see me and nothing really happened. My turn I ripped my Lord and Scarabs 24inches to get in range next turn to cause havoc. All warriors walk on the left side and run out to get better range. My Res Lord and Warriors on the right stand there popping shots off at his squads picking off half of a squad. My Destroyers move 12in on and light up 2 of his heavy weapons teams. His turn He bombards my squad in front and takes it down to 2 guys. On the left he shoots a little at my destroyers but nothing happens. My WBB are on fire this game as well, I raise back up to a 8 man Squad and get ready for another bombardment. On the left my Lord sneaks out 12in being within range for a lot if I wanna charge, I pop Nightmare Shroud and watch as he fails 3 moral checks and 3 squads run off the board... That's pretty much the Game right there. His last resort was to phase me out and with my Phase Out number being 14 that is very hard to do at this point. On his next couple turns he keeps bombing the 2 squads on the right and on the left I get my destroyers and lord with Scarabs into close combat with Penal Legion and his HQ and my guys were actually winning. By my turn 5 my left side was down to 6 guys and my Res Lord, so I pulled them out with Vail, moving them to the other side of the board to be safe as all the rest of my guys cleaned house. Turn 6 nothing happened and I didn't feel like killing more when I had clearly won, so it ended. He end up getting my Destroyer Lord and 2 Warrior squads for 3 points and I got 9 so I won. Along with that I also got 3 Bonus points making it 13 points over all.
At the end I now have 34 points.

At the end of the day we sat down and I found out that I won.... Yup C'rons did it, they Won. Next lowest person in the Tourny was Bang Bang who was 2 points behind me. The Star Gods must love me, Because no one else will.

Well that is that and I hope you enjoyed your time reading this to see that C'rons can pull out a victory, It just take some well planned out tricks up your sleeve. Also maybe a little bit of luck. It never hurts to pick up an army that is out dated and figure out new tricks with them.

Tourney on the 20th: a review

We had a local tournament on Sunday the 20th, and decided that it'd be a good time to get out blog going.

We'll be covering the experiences of two Ben's and a JD, including our successes and failures.

The tournament was three rounds at 1750. The first mission was a throwback to the old 4th ed. cleanse mission, being table quarters for deployment with the objective being controlling said quarters.
The second mission was 5 objectives placed just like Seize Ground, with Pitched Battle deployment and a turn 3 and 4 night fight "eclipse" to throw in some flavor.
The final round was Dawn of War with Annihilation, with the only tweak to the standard missions being that the 2 Troops and 1 Hq were mandatory to deploy.

Coming up soon will be Ben, Ben, and JD's reports, as Eldar, Necrons, and Imperial Guard respectively.

Check back soon!
